The Data Governance Act, aims to enhance trust in data sharing and improve data availability while addressing technical barriers to data reuse. The regulation promotes the creation of common European data spaces across various sectors, involving both public and private entities, including health, environment, energy, agriculture, mobility, finance, manufacturing, public administration, and skills. The Act outlines four key measures to facilitate trustworthy data sharing, including enabling the reuse of specific public sector data, ensuring data intermediaries act as reliable organisers of data sharing, simplifying the process for individuals and businesses to share data for societal benefit, and facilitating data sharing across sectors and borders, thus enabling data to be used effectively for its intended purpose. The Act entered into force on 23 June, 2022 and became fully effective in 24 September, 2023.
