The Voluntary Code of Conduct on the Responsible Development and Management of Advanced Generative AI Systems was introduced by the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry in Canada on September 27, 2023. The code was collaboratively developed with input from diverse stakeholders. This voluntary code outlines recommended practices for organisations involved in general-purpose generative AI system development and administration, grounded in six core principles: accountability, safety, fairness and equity, transparency, human oversight and monitoring, and validity and robustness. Organisations are urged to establish clear risk management frameworks, conduct safety impact assessments, address biases, ensure transparency and identification of AI systems, implement monitoring and incident reporting mechanisms, and rigorously test AI systems.
